Over the years, FORATOM has established and maintained a solid reputation as a trusted source of information on nuclear energy issues. It is therefore well placed to assist the institutions, as an expert partner, in the formulation of policy in the nuclear field. Input from FORATOM members is gathered by FORATOM task forces. It is then channeled into discussions on EU energy issues with the European institutions. This input is particularly valued by MEPs and officials in the European Commission.

It is clear that, for two important reasons, FORATOM is perfectly positioned and fully qualified to act as the representative body for an industry that plays a vital role in the EU economy.

These reasons are:
  • The broad base of FORATOM's membership, in terms of industrial activity and geography; and
  • The expertise offered by its staff, consisting of hand-picked specialists in EU institutional affairs, international law, nuclear technology and external relations.
